A clear example of transversal collaboration: A start-up from Barcelona - Aykos Healthcare SL -, with its own modular system, in collaboration with an architectural firm specialising in industrialised systems - Jorge Cuevas, Arquitectos Consultores Asociados S.L -, has reached a collaboration agreement with the Goierri Valley Group and several of its companies, for the construction of a modular hospital for the Mauritius Islands.
This type of collaboration between SMEs/Start-ups and industrial groups allows the value of the experience and resources of "traditional" industry to be combined with the advanced and ground-breaking vision of professionals and SMEs without an industrial structure, but focused on constant innovation and the broad vision that Start-ups can have.
The project solves the new highly complex surgical area, which includes an ISO 5 operating theatre, ISO 8 endoscopy room, and pre- and post-operative areas, with the modular off-site construction system. The logistical constraints and the committed schedule led to relocate the production (Basque Country), making a millimetric management of the logistics to the site, and an internal control of the local assembly (On-site).
The support of Goierri Valley has been important for the achievement of the project, the direct collaboration with the companies of the Iruko Berri and Aizkorpe Group, which, together with others, have allowed the project to be carried out with the established quality and deadlines, placing this project at the forefront of construction 4.0 in the country.
It should be explained that, apart from the speed of the project (24 weeks from signature to delivery), the surgical area can be relocated in the future and integrated into a new hospital to be built in 3 years. This competitive advantage allows a double ROI on the investment, which has not been the case in the construction sector until now.
"Behind this first project, broader collaborations are already being considered for future projects, replicating the equipment, agreements and processes."
Last week, the promoters of the project, together with other collaborating companies, visited Goierri Valley to get to know the association. In addition, the partners of Goierri Valley have had the opportunity to get to know the project at the Zumarraga facilities of the partner company Arcelor Mittal. They have seen the aforementioned module, which is about to be packed and sent by sea transport to the Mauritius Islands.
